John Williams at the Hollywood Bowl

David and I went to the Hollywood Bowl last night with my Mom and Robert for the “Music of the Movies” and boy did it not disappoint. We had done this 3 years ago and it really is amazing that you don’t really think about all that goes into composing and scoring music to a movie, and how it can make or break a particular scene. It was such a treat to see John Williams conduct the LA Philharmonic with such ease and comfort. The show started off with excerpts from tons of old films to the tune of “Hooray for Hollywood” and continued on with music from: Spartacus, Psycho, North by Northwest, Sabrina, Jaws, Indiana Jones, Star Wars and Superman. Check out the laser light sword from groupies during the Star Wars music:John Williams is beyond impressive. For a 78 year old genius, he doesn’t appear to be going anywhere. We googled him in the car and read that he has won 5 Oscars, 4 Golden Globes, 21 Grammy’s, written theme songs for the Olympics and worked on every Steven Speilberg movie except The Color Purple. He has scored 97 movies having started his career in 1958. Such talent!

The Music of the Movies with John Williams will be there again tonight, but another event for those who want to see something similar this summer can go September 5th at 7:30  to see The Big Picture: Music of 20th Century Fox with excerpts from the Sound of Music to Avatar.
