Chewy Chocolate Chip Granola Bars

Granola Bars

If I have to buy another box of Z Bars for my son I’m going to go NUTS! So I have been scouring online for the perfect one that isn’t too sweet but will be something he’s sure to like. And I found it. These were perfectly easy to make, and the best thing is I didn’t have Rice Krispie’s like the recipe called for, so instead I used Chex cereal and just smashed it up with my hand. You’d never know the difference. (I also omitted the almonds.) I’ve kept them in my refrigerator and they have been our go to snack this weekend and went straight into his lunch box today!

Do It Yourself Thanksgiving PhotoBooth + Props

tg2

My son is having a Thanksgiving party in his classroom and I don’t know what came over me but I was obesssed with the idea of creating a photobooth for the kids. I’ve had such an overwhelming response from posting it, here are the steps I took in creating it.

I started by locating free printables and found this one and this one which I liked a lot. (This beak and turkey talk looks cute too) I printed them on thick cardstock and cut them out perfectly. Next stop was Michael’s where I got lollipop sticks for the props and simply taped them on the back, thoughtfully. For the photo booth I decided to get their Foam Board in 18×24 and I got Burlap Garland. In their Thanksgiving section I found some felt pumpkins in garland form which I put on top of the burlap as a border. There were really cute fall leaves and other things that would totally have worked as well. After cutting out foam board with a 4 inch border, I just used my handy dandy glue gun to secure it all down. And it didn’t hurt having models who were willing, able and ready!

Halloween Gingerbread Haunted Houses

I really love all things Halloween…and since we have been a home base for trick-or-treating since we’ve had kids I’m always looking for fun things for us to decorate or for the kids to do. So that’s why I was ecstatic to see these Gingerbread Haunted House Kits at Williams Sonoma!

No-Bake Granola Bites

no bake granole bites

This was an amazing after school project I did with BOTH kids. We measured, stirred, made a huge mess and Nathan determined he was the “chocolate taste tester” of our family. These are really delicious, would probably be better if I froze them (so I just froze half) and with the oats and ground flax seeds, I used a combo of honey and agave nectar as well as almond butter instead of peanut butter, I’m pretty sure it was no big difference. For a nut free option just try Sunflower Butter. They were so a big hit, pretty filling and ready after after homework, bath and then dinner.

Enjoy these No Bake Granola Bites!

Come For the Beach, Stay for the Food Trucks…Marina Del Rey on Thursday nights

Beacheats

I love it when I find out about new things that are up my alley (or my kids…my husband…good luck!) so thanks Danielle for this one. I definitely plan to check it out soon and if you haven’t seen Chef yet you MUST!

Marina Beach (Mother’s Beach) is transformed into a waterfront food haven every Thursday evening with “Beach Eats” where popular food trucks gather to offer the hottest bites in town. Pack a picnic lunch for your day with the kiddos at Mother’s, and then don’t even worry about dinner – just fill them up and then bring them home to dump them in the tub! Start time is 5 pm and it ends at 9 pm. You can check the weekly schedule for all the trucks that might appeal to you.

Back to School

IMG_8060

We started school today and it was a lot less emotional than I though it would be. It could have been because we were in such a huge rush to get out of the house on time.  In any event I found some great things that those of us with kids can use so feel free to print away (sorry the second one is a day late). I know for our family finding out what went on at school is a tough one….

BRENTWOOD GRAND PRIX, AUGUST 3rd

bwgp
On August 3, 2014 The Brentwood Grand Prix is back and is something I have always seen in town but never been able to participate in because I’m no biker… but after a year long of doing Soul Cycle I think I might be getting closer to actually considering it one of these years, but for those of you who are more serious you can register here.

The Brentwood Gand Prix raises money for the Melanoma Research Alliances, the world’s leasing private funder of melanoma research, and the LA County Bicycle Coalition, so please help support this worth cause. At the event they also offer free Melanoma screenings in the Expo Area by local dermatologists in conjunction with the American Academy of Dermatology.

In addition to watching all of the people at the event, what we are planning to do is sign our 6 year old son up for the free kids race sponsored by Helen’s Cycles. Check it out!  You can register here!
